We are thrilled to announce that Lawrence Catholic Academy will name its new academic building Corey C. Griffin Hall. This tribute recognizes Corey’s enduring legacy of generosity and commitment to improving the lives of children. The Corey C. Griffin Foundation (CCGF) has played a vital role in supporting the construction of the new facility, further cementing Corey’s impact on the Lawrence community.
For the Academy, which serves an underprivileged population, the new building represents “the single best new school for the kids who have the most dangerous lives,” said Father Paul O’Brien, President of Lawrence Catholic Academy and Pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish. “Starting in September, the day after Labor Day, and hopefully for a hundred-plus years, hundreds of children in Lawrence are going to have their childhood in Corey C. Griffin Hall.”
Lawrence Catholic Academy, which serves more than 475 students from Pre-K through Grade 8, is in the midst of a transformational project to build a modern, state-of-the-art school. Construction of the new, three-story, 42,000 square-foot building began in March 2024 and is set to be completed by July 2025. The new space will allow the school to expand its early childhood education program and provide enhanced resources for STEM, the arts, and athletics. The initiative is part of a $30 million project that includes a second phase to construct a recreation center featuring a full gymnasium and auditorium.
Chandra Clark, President of the Corey C. Griffin Foundation, sees a natural connection between the two organizations. “Corey believed deeply in lifting up young people and giving them the tools to succeed. The impact of this new school building will be felt for generations, and we are incredibly proud to help make this dream a reality for Lawrence Catholic Academy.”
The Griffin family has long been a champion of causes that support children in need. Rob Griffin, Corey’s father and Founder of the Corey C. Griffin Foundation, shared his heartfelt gratitude to the school. “Corey’s mission in life was to help others, and it is deeply moving to see his legacy honored in this way. We know that The Corey C. Griffin Hall will be a place where children are nurtured, challenged, and inspired.”
The announcement was made during the Corey C. Griffin Foundation’s Boston Winter Ball gala event on Saturday, February 8 in Boston. The official dedication of Corey C. Griffin Hall will take place in the fall of 2025, following the completion of construction and the start of the new school year.
More details about the ribbon cutting ceremony and building opening will be shared in the coming months.
