The Corey C. Griffin Foundation is proud to partner with The Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC). The CAC is dedicated to uniting public, private and community partners to ensure safety, healing and justice for children and families impacted by abuse and violence. They’re Suffolk County’s only not-for-profit organization that coordinates child protection, law enforcement, prosecutors, advocates, and medical and mental health experts to provide a prompt and sensitive interagency response to child abuse. The organization works with more than 1600 kids annually including hundreds of high risk or exploited kids.
Their Multi-Disciplinary (MDT) Team Investigation is the heart of the CAC’s response to allegations of child abuse. The goal of the MDT is to quickly respond to concerns of child abuse and to determine the best response for the child and family. The MDT recognizes that a concern of child abuse can be a crisis for a child and the family, and works to minimize the stress for both through a supportive and comprehensive response. The MDT’s purpose is to reduce the number of times that a child has to speak about their abuse and to help families access safety and services. The Multi-Disciplinary Team Investigation includes an interview which provides a child the space and time to talk about what happened – in their own words. All members of the team then work together to create an action plan for support and services based on the needs of the child and family.
